Responding to the call for greater safety for car drivers and passengers, President Lyndon Johnson signs the US Motor Vehicle Safety Act into law. It mandates seat belts, energy absorbing steering columns and dashboards, warning flashers, and head restraints on all cars sold in the country.
March, 2: one-millionth Ford Mustang is built in less than two years from start of production.
September, 30: Mercury Cougar is introduced by Ford as "America's first luxury/sports car at a popular price".
Oldsmobile launches the front-wheel drive Toronado.
Variable power steering is available on Cadillacs.
GM introduces the industry's first energy absorbing steering column.
GM introduces front seat shoulder belts on 1967 models. (Rear seat shoulder belts are available as a dealer installed option).
Cadillac's front-wheel drive Fleetwood Eldorado is introduced as a 1967 model.
Chevrolet introduces the F-body Camaro as a 1967 model.
Pontiac introduces the Firebird, its third line of cars, as a 1967 model.
The US Senate, Committee on Government Operations, investigates allegations of harassment of Ralph Nader by GM. James M. Roche, GM President, apologizes for the incident in a statement before the Subcommittee on Executive Reorganization.
Persistant financial problems finally forces Studebaker to go out of business.
Chrysler innovation continues in 1966, when engineers modifies engines to create the Clean Air Package, an exhaust emission control system.
The front seat shoulder harness and the separate, self-contained rear window heater/defroster system are among Chrysler safety innovations this year.
Chrysler now owns 76 percent of the French car company Simca, giving it total control.
At the end of the year seat belts become standard in the United States.

Chevy II teatrical ad.
Starts out talking about Chevy II as if that is all the film is going to be about. The testimonial from the president of the San Diego Yellow Cab company sounds as if it might be the only non-scripted thing in this film, but it is matched to surreal footage of echelons of yellow Chevy II's cruising the city, unhampered by traffic.
Suddenly we cut to a demolition derby for no discernable reason at first, but somehow it makes sense in the mind of the Jam Handy organization that this points out the toughness and durability of Chevy's, although none are seen. Just some statistics about how many more Fords and scrapped each year.
Then we get some side-by-side and comparison of the Chevy Caprice to Ford LTD and Plymouth VIP. Of course, no mention of price or optional equipment, but wouldn't you know it, the Chevy comes out ahead! Oh, but they did fail to conduct the coin balance test on the other two cars. The race across the dirt at the end of part 1 is spectacular, if unbelievable.
Part 2 finally gets to the over-the-top spokes-model on camera, and the real purpose of this film: to fire up your dealership sales staff with "facts" and sales incentive gimmicks. The ending with Lorne Greene is nice. "That's impact!" The short animation of the stereotypical Injun attempting to blow up a Chevy at the conclusion is inexplicable.

We do provide duplicates of the multimedial files of the Collection on a customized DVD-ROM on a (1) cost-recovery basis.
Almost all the digital copies of the films are good quality Hi-Res editable videos.
All the videos in this Collection are available in different format, size and definition. We can suggest you the right one for the use you have in mind.

WE LICENSE FOOTAGE from our Collections for: multimedial creations on CD or DVD, TV commercials, film or TV programs, documentary Productions, web sites, marketing/ad campaigns, video email, electronic kiosks, trade shows, business seminars, cultural events, museums, expositions... and more.
Hi-Res videos from our Collections are available on DVD, CD or directly in your inbox. Clips and movies can also be downloaded from our servers using a PW or uploaded by us to your FTP.

(1) It is possible to obtain digital duplicates of the multimedial files (movies, videos, audio documents, and Virtual Reality files) from Romano-Archives for research, teaching, general interest user information, and private study purposes.
The fees charged for these files are on a cost-recovery basis.
The size, run-time, quality, and detailed informations regarding any multimedial file are indicated in the list inside our demo-DVD, where you can find images and/or animated gifs illustrating any file, 10 demo-videos, 2 for every different quality class, and 10 samples regarding the other kind of multimedial files composing the collection.
The files are available on a customized DVD-ROM.
Billing is done when the order is fulfilled. Payment instructions will follow. Normal turn around time for requests is 3 weeks.
